Another version of Google’s Penguin algorithm update is rolling out. The fourth update dubbed Version 2.0 targets over optimization or ‘spammy’ websites. Intended to penalize websites that utilize black hat SEO techniques and reward websites that offer genuine value, Porn Sites, Game sites and Big Brands so far seem to be the most affected.
According to Matt Cutts “Penguin 2.0 should help many small to mid-sized businesses that play by the rules and avoid black hat SEO. It should also help authority sites gain traction while decreasing the rankings of sites that merely provide generic fluff.”
However some of the major sites have also seen large changes in their ranking results including reportedly salvationarmy.org. according to SearchMetrics. Many thin sites with no real content, sites with thin links and especially untrusted links have been affected. In addition, some small business sites were hit because they haven’t taken SEO serious enough.
If you haven’t already, now is a really good time to have a look at your websites backlinks (sites that are linking back to you) and if you are still using mass back-linking tactics to rank your site, you need to change your SEO strategies
